At the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy on Lakeshore road, we are getting ready for the flu season. We offer vaccinations in the pharmacy and the flu season is a great time to raise awareness on the importance of getting vaccinated against the flu. To make it more convenient for you to get vaccinated this year, you can pre-book for your flu shot and get a call once vaccination starts. Because availability is not guaranteed, we will offer the vaccines in order of booking especially if the supply from the public health office is limited.
Most people that get the flu will go through symptoms like headache, fever, body aches, coughing and fatigue for a few days, up to a few weeks. Unfortunately, the flu can also lead to complications like pneumonia and respiratory failure for a small number of people. The risk for complications increases if someone already has a chronic medical condition like asthma, diabetes, COPD or a weakened immune system. Getting the flu shot protects not only yourself but also offers protection to people around you that might be more susceptible to the virus. If you do not get the flu, you are less likely to spread the flu. Getting vaccinated every year is necessary as the vaccines for each flu season is developed to be effective against current flu strains.
This year, we are running a ‘Get 1 Vaccine and Give 4’ event all through the flu season (October to April). For every vaccine you get at our Lakeshore road location, we will donate enough for 4 vaccines in support of UNICEF Canada’s Child Vaccination Program. Please support us by raising awareness and feel free to ask for more information about how UNICEF helps.
